Central New York OCF Affiliate, Inc. ============================================================= The Central New York Obsessive-Compulsive Foundation Affiliate, Inc., a non-profit organization established in 1997, serves as a viable community resource for OCD sufferers, their loved ones and family members in the Greater Utica, NY area. It is the first Affiliate of the National OC Foundation in New York State. The Affiliate coordinates the activities of local Support Groups, providing reference materials (books, videos, etc), internet information on research and treatment, and financial aid as needed. Its emphasis is to provide advocacy and support for sufferers, community awareness, and promotion of research and treatment for this prevalent neurobiological disorder. The Board of Directors, comprised of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Asst. Secretary, Treasurer and several General Board Members, reflects the vested interest of those appointed to these positions to improving the lifestyle of their fellow OCD victims. Fundraising efforts are ongoing. Monies are raised through yearly garage sales, solicitations and the generous donations of caring individuals concerned with the quality of life of those struggling against the ravages of OCD. The Affiliate developed as a result of community interest and response to the first OCD Support Group founded in 1996. Spurring the group’s efforts was the tragic destruction and ultimate end of the life of Brian Connell, a 16 year old honor student, gifted athlete, loving brother and my precious son, who was victimized by OCD and depression. The loss of our Brian was the turning point of dedication, motivation, and personal energies invested in OCD awareness campaigns throughout New York. Brian’s attending psychiatrist, family and close friends’ unfailing dedication, willingness and availability to educate the public, manage OCD Support Group meetings, address school personnel and countless public forums about OCD put our cause on the map. Brian’s story has motivated and inspired thousands. The Central NY OCF Affiliate’s goals are directed toward continuing these good works by: Seeking and identifying audiences for OCD Awareness training Solicitation of donations to further our mission Development of additional OCD Support Groups in New York State Recruitment of professionals in the medical and psychiatric field to aid in OCD treatment & research Assist OCD sufferers and their families Remember Brian C.
